Brad Anders enters race for county mayor

Brad Anders, Knox County commissioner and Knoxville Police Department lieutenant, has appointed a treasurer so he can begin raising funds for a race for Knox County mayor.

Anders joins fellow commissioner Bob Thomas and professional wrestler Glenn Jacobs as candidates in next year’s Republican Primary. Anders has served on the commission since 2008, serving as chair in 2013 and 2014.

Anders started his career with the KPD in 1992 and currently supervises the Special Crimes Unit in the Criminal Investigation Division. He served 13 years on the Crisis Negotiation Team, leading that team the last two years.

Brad and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for 18 years and have a daughter, Addison. They reside in Karns and are members of Grace Baptist Church where they have both served in numerous leadership capacities.

Brad Anders announces plans to run for Knox County Mayor

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knox County Commissioner Brad Anders is throwing his hat in the ring for Knox County Mayor.

Anders filed paperwork with the Knox County Election Commission Tuesday afternoon. He has served on the Knox County Commission since August 2008. He currently serves the sixth district.

The county commissioner received his bachelors in organizational management from Tusculum College in 2006. He has been employed by the Knoxville Police Department since 1992 and currently works as a Patrol Lieutenant and is on the Crisis Negotiation Unit.

Glenn Jacobs and Knox County Commissioner Bob Thomas have also announced they are running. Current Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett is ineligible to run because of Knox County’s term limits.

Knox Co. Commissioner Brad Anders to run for mayor

KNOX COUNTY – Knox County Commissioner and Knoxville Police Department Lieutenant Brad Anders announced his run for Knox County Mayor.

Anders confirmed his intention Tuesday to run for the office of Knox County Mayor in 2018. He has filed his treasurer nomination form to begin collecting financial support.

“After much prayer and consideration, I have made the decision to seek the Republican nomination for Knox County Mayor in 2018,” Anders said. “Through my service on commission and in the community, I believe I have illustrated the proven, effective leadership we need to take the next step as a county.”

Anders was raised in the Holston community. He’s a graduate of Knox County Schools and Tusculum College.

He was first elected to fill a partial term on Knox County Commission in 2008, and was re-elected in 2010 and 2016. He was elected Chairman of the Commission by his peers in 2013 and 2014.

Anders started his career with the Knoxville Police Department in 1992 and currently serves is a Lieutenant, supervising the Special Crimes Unit in the Criminal Investigation Division.
